About SMASH!

About SMASH!

SMASH! Sydney Manga and Anime Show is a Japanese pop culture convention that is devoted to artists, creators and fans alike. A driving force in Australia’s anime and manga community that attracts thousands of visitors every year, SMASH! has something for everyone. With high calibre guests, exciting activities such as cosplay, panels, games, and an extensive Vendors and Artist Market, SMASH! gives fans the chance to enjoy unique experiences and celebrate their fandom in a social environment.

WE’RE NOT-FOR-PROFIT.

SMASH! is run by SMASH Inc, a government-registered non-profit organisation created by fans for fans. SMASH Inc aims to create an open and affordable avenue that serves as a meeting point for fans with an emphasis on art, creativity and community involvement. We’re proud our organisational structure allows us to do the right thing by our fans, our volunteers, and the greater community.

WE’RE VOLUNTEERS. ALL OF US.

SMASH Inc works all year-round to prepare for the convention, including logistics, preparing events, and training fellow volunteers. We also run events throughout the year from time to time! While all roles at SMASH Inc are unpaid, our volunteers gain a wealth of hands-on experience in multiple aspects of running a large-scale convention. If you’re interested in becoming part of the SMASH! experience, visit our Get Involved page for more information.

WE’RE FOR ANIME, MANGA, & JAPANESE CULTURE.

This means we can focus on bringing you the latest and greatest in otaku culture. We’re willing to have a go and launch new experiences which may be the first in Sydney, if not Australia! SMASH! is also a proud member of the International Otaku Expo Association (IOEA).

The SMASH! convention is run by fans, for fans.
