Maquia is an orphan Iorph – a race who live for hundreds of years and with a youthful appearance separated from the ravages and lives of humankind. One day however the Kingdom of Mezarte invades her homeland and she finds herself separated and alone. Finding a deceased mother and her still crying baby, Maquia decides to adopt him. She travels to the village of Helm and explores the loneliness within herself in a foreign land as well as the struggles of raising a child who ages much faster than her.
